List of Untapped Blogging Niches in Nigeria

Do you know that there are still a full list of untapped blogging niches in Nigeria ? Yes, a whole lot of topics are no way to be found on the internet even though they are tons of would-be readers.

Sure, those untapped blogging niches are the ones I am going to focus on in this article.

The word blogging I am sure is no longer a new term in Nigeria because we often visit many Nigerian blogs to read about sizzling gist, bet, apply for jobs, etc.

Some names have paid their dues in Nigeria’s blogosphere and they include Linda Ikeji Blog, Ogbongeblog.com, 360nobs.com, Ynaija, etc.

These blogs stand out and they have heavy traffic generated by thousands if not millions of people accessing the blogs to get different gist.

Unfortunately, most popular blogs in Nigeria are lifestyle blogs. Lifestyle blogs are blogs which cover all issues – a wide range of issues, but a niche blog covers an area of human endeavor like health, marriage, music, etc.

Now that we have an idea of what niche and lifestyle blogs are, we will go ahead to discuss list of untapped blogging niches in Nigeria.

The potentials of niche blogs have been left largely untapped in Nigeria as it seems most bloggers concentrate more on lifestyle blogs.

Well, in this article, I shall show you the areas that even though are sell-able, have remained arguably unharnessed because many Nigerian bloggers prefer lifestyle blogs. Let’s do this!!!

List of Untapped Blogging Niches in Nigeria

As I told you earlier, niche blogs are blogs which focus on well-defined areas of human endeavour. Now let’s x-ray a list of untapped blogging niches in Nigeria.

#1. Real estate niche

It is often said in Nigeria that the best form of investment is that in real estate. Acquiring landed property is a good business venture because they hardly depreciate.

For example, houses bought for N2million some 7 years ago now goes for over N5million (depending on the location in Nigeria) which is more than twice the initial mortgage price.

This is because of population increase, rural to urban migration and of course, the desire to own a home and stop paying money to renew rents.

In cities like Lagos, Port Harcourt, Calabar, Abuja and Enugu, the price of houses keeps skyrocketing and the business is quite lucrative.

Also, due to incessant violence and bombings in northern Nigeria, there seems to be high exodus of people down south making house demand to increase.

Unfortunately, niche bloggers haven’t done enough to enlightened people who can afford to buy, but don’t know who to buy genuine houses and lands from because trust is a big issue in doing business in Nigeria.

Therefore, real estate is a big untapped blogging niche in Nigeria as we don’t have enough bloggers concentrating on how/where to buy lands and houses and their different rates.

#2. Grocery sales niche

Meat (measured in weighing balance like beef, mutton, chicken, turkey, etc.), bags of rice, garri and beans, sachet and bottled water, yam, potatoes, basket of tomatoes, tin tomatoes, noodles, wheat, and flour are basic food items that we cannot do without every day.

Imagine having a blog that will deal comprehensively in these food items, where these groceries can be bought at cheap prices and the location of such towns and villages from a major town.

Imagine how someone who just relocated to Port Harcourt would feel if he learns on your blog that a 50kg bag of garri sells say N10,000 at Mile 1 Market but the same quality and quantity of garri goes for N8,000 at Rukpokwu Market, and Rukpokwu Market is about 2km from Mile 1 Market.

Now clicking on the details the person will see the direction from city center to Rukpokwu Market. Believe you me, many Nigerians will find this blog interesting and before you say Jacks Robinson, it will start generating heavy traffic.

So, grocery is on my list of untapped blogging niches in Nigeria.

#3. Automobile niche

Statistics has it that because Nigerians are car freaks, they often buy the latest and the most expensive cars in the world.

Yes, Nigerians rank among the highest number of people who have the propensity to buy the most expensive cars in the world.

Sadly, we don’t have good niche blogs around that extensively discuss auto related issues in Nigeria. Automobile blog in this context means a blog that compares different car models and places they can be bought in Nigeria.

Also, many Nigerians prefer to buy cars in Lagos while some Nigerians may also wish to buy directly from Cotonou either for sale or personal use, the pros and cons of buying in Nigeria or overseas.

Also, this blog will explain in detail how buying abroad can be done to make it hassle free, the right government agencies that will levy new car buyers on the border, the best auto mechanic (shops) in Nigeria and their contacts.

This blog will also talk about unknown auto policies in Nigeria extensively and everything concerning cars and even power bikes.

Furthermore, the blog will reveal latest cars released by car manufacturers, their specifications and capacity, where they can be bought in Nigeria and their prices. So, automobile blog is left largely untapped and it comes in on my list of untapped blogging niches in Nigeria.

#4. Language niche

Imagine having a blog that will teach people both local and foreign languages. They will have sections for Igbo, Hausa, Yoruba, Ijaw, Efik, English, Idoma, Tiv, French, Spanish, Korean, Italian, Mandarin and so many languages.

Many Nigerians like to learn one language or another at leisure time, but when they think about the cost of learning these languages, they often get discouraged.

Now the experience of having to call their tutors (if need be) and in the convenience of their homes will even add more glamour to it.

On the blog, people interested in learning new languages will be directed on how to meet language tutors in Nigeria at affordable fees or learn directly online. Everything pertaining to languages will be taught on the blog.

For many Nigerians, language blogs sound rather strange but when a person starts it and progresses in it, other bloggers will follow suit.

It would be nice to see blogs display: “Learn Ikwerre in 3 months,” Wouldnt it? Learning languages online is common overseas but it is still strange to many Nigerians, therefore, language blog is a huge untapped potential and makes my list of untapped blogging niches in Nigeria.

#5. Banking niche

Banking is an interesting subject in Nigeria because it involves people’s finances and deposits. Nigerian bloggers have failed to invest in this area of blogging.

A banking blog will talk about better ways to save and invest money, use online banking platforms, how different account packages work in banks, the requirements for account opening in different banks, new promo introduced by Nigerian banks, Nigerian bank earnings and image abroad, best Nigerian bank convenient for abroad shopping and why, Nigerian banks ratings and many other banking related activities.

Now the good part is that it will get to a point when ALL Nigerian banks will start advertising on such blogs (affiliate marketing). So, banking niche is on my list of untapped blogging niches in Nigeria and should be tapped.

Summary

In summary, all the niches discussed above have arguably rich potentials which have been left untapped.

I bet any blogger who dares to venture into them will make a great success out of them because they have not been exploited; hence they made my list of untapped blogging niches in Nigeria.

Nigeria’s blogosphere is developing at a very fast rate and there is need to diversify it – not just concentrating on lifestyle blogging.

Furthermore, one major problem of Nigerian bloggers is that they don’t really like to take up new challenges, but they like to go into lifestyle blogs because one or two persons have succeeded in that area.

This is actually a bad approach to translating new business ideas into practical reality and should be discouraged – they should learn to take up new challenges.

Hi, my name is Hachi, I decided to own a blog last year, and of course I went for the lifestyle blog which would require me to read other people’s story and re write mine, but I wasn’t really feeling it I have been looking for ways to change that and I can now thanks to you, I have applied for Adsense twice now disapproved both times, but the second time actually was after they approved my account, I already have an account with by blog I don’t know how but one day I went to my earning tab and I could click and apply Adsense, anyways I have an account but they haven’t approved it fully yet for low content value to be precise, after reading your article I went to my blog and deleted every post I had which was about 400 , and am ready to start all over again with one of your untapped nich.would love to hear back from you.
