Ministry of Youth and Sports Ogun State

The Ministry of Youth And Sports Ogun State is tasked with the responsibility of monitoring and coordinating all youth associations in Ogun state.

All youth organizations must register their activity as well as their sponsors with the Ministry Of Youth And Sports. The Ministry creates workshops and seminars aimed at empowering youths in the state.

It organizes sporting activities like football tournament, table tennis championship, basketball as well as cultural events to promote the culture of the people of the state.

Boys Brigade Association, Ogun Chapter

The Boys Brigade Association, Ogun Chapter is an off shoot of the international Boys Brigade Association.

Brief history of Boys Brigade

  • The founder of the Boy’s Brigade is Sir William Alexander Smith.
  • It was founded in Glasgow Scotland in 1883.
  • It is a Christian youth organization comprising of all churches.
  • Boys Brigade in present in 60 countries world wide

 

Mission

To develop Christian manliness by the use of a semi-military discipline and order, gymnastics, summer camps and religious services and classes.

 

Contributions of Boys Brigade, Ogun Chapter to Ogun State

  1. The boys brigade complement the government efforts at sanitation by engaging its members on environment sanitation.
  2. It also offers assistance during period of disaster by collaborating with necessary state agencies.
  3. The Boys Brigade also complements the efforts of the government in security and peace and orderliness during public events.
  4. The Boys Brigade also act as agents of change. They help to promote the good will of the government to the people and sensitive the citizen on adopting proper behaviors thereby shunning negative practices.

 

Girls Brigade Association, Ogun Chapter

The Girls Brigade Association work in tandem with the Boys Brigade Association. They are both Christian youth organizations and they embrace members from all churches.

The Girls Brigade works on certain principles some of which include:

  • They acknowledge Jesus Christ as their lord and savior.
  • They exhibit positive attitude based on the Christian life.
  • Promoting a just society where everyone is valued equally

 

Royal Amabassadors of Ogun Baptist Conference

The Royal Ambassadors is a Christian based organization where members are mentored by the Royal Ambassador leaders. Members engage in various sporting activities where they grow spiritually.

Royal Ambassadors was created from the Men’s Missionary Union in 1997. There are different age groups within the organization. We have the junior royal ambassador (10-15), intermediate royal ambassadors (16-25) and the senior royal ambassadors (26-34).

Vision

The vision of the association is: Touching the lives of boys… impacting the eternity of men!

Objectives of the Organization

  • To help boys in spiritual development and discipleship
  • To aid the career development of boys
  • To promote the commitment of boys to church development, stewardship and denominational interest.

 

Activities of the Association

Hiking: This is done every august. The aim of this is to encourage boys to be in good physical shape.

It is usually in the form of endurance trekking. During the trekking, members normally use it as an avenue to promote godly living among people.

Mission Work: Royal ambassadors use the association to promote the activities of the Baptist mission by helping to bring people closer towards Christ.

 

African Lads and Lasses Brigade

This is a Christian youth organization that teaches people to obey the words of God. It was founded in 2002.

The objective of this association is to teach its members to be worthy ambassador upholding virtues like respect, good manners and orderliness.

It normally hold meet up in which various issues are discussed and they engage in various sporting activities like running, football, table tennis etc.

National camp  is held every year in which all members from different state chapters convene together for the purpose of strengthening the association.

The association also hold leadership workshops every year to teach young ones to become good leaders in the society and contribute meaningfully to the growth and development of the church.

 

Arewa Youth, Ogun State Chapter

The Arewa youth community is the youth arm of the larger Arewa forum. It represents all northerners living in Ogun state.

Arewa forum, its larger arm constitutes a group of northern men and woman who have interest in the cultural and political scene in northern Nigeria. The group is very active and it contributes meaningfully to national discussion as concerns northern Nigeria.

The group was formed in 2000 out of the defunct Northern People’s Congress which was popular during the 60’s.

The main objective of the association is to establish unity among northern leaders in order to fast track development in the region through a democratic process.

 

Ansar Ud Deen Youth Wing

The Ansar Ud Deen youth wing, Ogun state is the youth arm of the larger Ansar Ud Deen society of Nigeria.

The objective of the youth wing is to increase the contribution and impact of Muslim youths to the state.

The main aim of the society is to aid the development of Muslim children by building schools where they can learn at the same time teach them about Islam.

The first school built by the society was in Alakoro in 1931. Presently there are over 500 primary schools built by the society.

The association normally holds yearly camp in the state where members from all parts of the state convene to discuss on ways to increase their faith.

The contribution of youth associations in Ogun state cannot be quantified, from promoting peace, moral standard as well as institutionalizing good living, the youth associations in Ogun state are an inseparable part of the development of the state.
