Ethan Uzamere, the Edo State Commissioner for Mining and Energy has said that Godwin Obaseki’s government banned the task force on petroleum products’ sale and monitoring over abuse of privilege by members. THE NATION reports.Information Guide Nigeria
He said the task force was extorting owners of filling stations, which he described as unacceptable.
The commissioner said in Benin that with the unpleasant experiences of the past, the Obaseki’s administration would unlikely lift the ban on activities of the task force.
Uzamere said: “In the past, members were going round Edo State to ensure availability and sale of petroleum products in filling stations, but we later found that they were extorting filling stations’ owners…
“I had to conduct research on where the owners of filling stations got their products from and litres of the products that were given to them, thereby tracking activities at their stations.
He reiterated that the Dagbala mining site in Akoko-Edo Local Government was closed because of insecurity, to avoid what happened in other states.
Noting that when the mining site would be reopened, only those with licences would access the site.
On the solid minerals company, he said the Obaseki’s administration had started the process and got some approvals, but the state was being careful.
On private/modular refineries, particularly Ologbo, Uzamere stressed that approval was not a problem, but that of feedstock.

He noted that the other modular refineries in Edo were private companies, but assured that most of them would come on stream in the next few months, which according to him, would ensure the availability of petroleum products in the state.JAMB Result
Edo mining and energy commissioner, who was accompanied by the ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Ferguson Enabulele, stated that Obaseki’s administration was collaborating well with the Federal Government on items on the exclusive legislative list, because it was in touch more with the citizens than the Federal Government, with his ministry overseeing assets that were exclusively owned by the Federal Government.
