Olamide Adedeji fondly known as Olamide and Baddosneh is a Nigerian singer, rapper and producer who hails from ijebu-ode, Ogun state but was born in Bariga, Lagos state on the 15th March, 1989.

Olamide Education

Olamide had his primary and secondary school in Lagos before proceeding to the Tai Solarin University of education where he studied mass communication. He discovered his love and ability to make music as a teenager and began to focus on them.

In his three hundred level in the university, he started working on professional music but gave it full attention after his graduation. He got signed to ID Cabasa’s Coded Tunez record label where he was managed by Toni Payne, the ex wife of musician 9ice.

Olamide Music Career

Olamide who raps in yoruba language released his first album titled “Rapsodi” in 2011 under Coded Tunez. It featured guest appearances from Pheelz, Wizkid, 9ice, Reminisce, Lord of Ajasa, Terry D Rapman and a few others.

The sixteen tracked album was a combination of Hip Hop and Yoruba music, it had several hit singles like “Boys are not smiling” and “Eni Duro” which topped severe music charts in radio stations all over Lagos and across Nigeria.

The singer left Coded Tunez and came up with his own music label the “YBNL Records” in 2012. YBNL which is an acronym for Yahoo Boy No laptop emulates a successful lifestyle that is akin to that of a yahoo boy but the difference is communicated in the words “No Laptop” an indication that hard work pays off better than fraud.

He released his second album titled “YBNL” under the record label in the same year and featured other artists like Tiwa Savage, Dammy Krane, Davido, Reminisce, Base 1 and others. The album which was produced by Olamide,Pheelz, Samklef, ID cabasa, 2 Kriss and Tyrone was a combination of yoruba music, African hip hop and hip hop.

Its hit singles out of the twenty tracks were “Ilefo”, Iluminati”, “First of all”, “Stupid Love” and “Voice of the street”. The album was launched at the octopus club in yaba, Lagos with performances from Phyno, Dammy Krane,Sam Klef and Skales. It received positive reviews from music critics who rated it as a very good album.

In May 2013, it was speculated that D’Banj had signed Olamide to his DB records, the singer refuted the allegation by his twitter handle, citing that it was too late for anyone to sign him. His next and third studio album “Baddest Guy Ever Liveth” was released through YBNL Records in 2013.

It had twenty one tracks with guest appearances from Ice Prince, Bez, Phyno and other upcoming acts. The twenty one tracked album was recorded mostly in Yoruba language in a blend of indigenous rap and juju music.

It included the hit singles “Duro Some”, “Turn Up”, “Yemi my lover” and “Eleda mi”.
Later that year, the Yoruba rapper joined D’Banj, Burna Boy, Chidinma, Vector, Seyi Shay, Show dem camp, Phyno, Kay switch and Sean Tizzle on the Hennessey Artistry 2013 Club tour.

Olamide’s fourth studio album “Street OT” was released in 2014. Rated by music and entertainment blogs: Bella Naija and Nigerian Entertainment Today as a very good album, it peaked at number one on iTunes world album chart. It had twenty one tracks, a combination of hip hop, rap and afro beat and pop music with features from Reminisce, Lil Kesh, Phyno, Don Jazzy, Paauma Wonda.

Its biggest singles were “Story for the gods” and “Goons Mi”.

2015 was a musically massive year for Olamide as he was able to release two bodies of work without fear. His collaborative album with Phyno his close friend and co rapper in the industry was titled “2 Kings” and released under YBNL Nations and Phyno’s Penthauze Records in April 2015.

The hip hop album which was a well crafted masterpiece and a combination of skill from both artists featured Wizkid, Storm Rex, Lil Kesh and Young John. Excited fans and critics rated it a very good album.

I personally believe the album was quite successful because both artists are good friends and colleagues who were able to sync for the purpose of recording great music. With just ten tracks, it had two massive hits “Une” and “Confam ni”.

By November he released his fifth studio album “Eyan Mayweather”. Critics expressed pleasure at the album, stating that it proved the competency of the singer, it had no features but produced several hit songs that included “Matters Arising”, “Melo Memo”, “Bobo” and “Lagos boys”.

Olamide holds a yearly concert titled OLIC (Olamide in Concert), In 2016, he held the concert in the United States of America successfully, returned to Nigeria and released his sixth studio album titled “The Glory”.

With this album, the singer revealed a matured personality and a grown artist who had been refined and pruned through experience, skill and expertise in the industry, he soberly reflects on his little beginning, his legacy as an artist and as a father and attributes his success to God, he was able to express his lyrical depth in a fusion of sounds and diverse messages.

The album featured Wande Coal, Phyno, Burna boy and Akuchi in a few tracks out of the entire sixteen that makes up the album which produced hit singles like “Pepper dem gang”, Journey of a thousand miles”, “Omo Wobe”, “Who you EPP”, “Owo blow” and “Underground”.

He has collaborated in a lot of singles with his friend and colleague Phyno and other acts like MasterKraft, AKA , IcePrince, Wizkid, Tiwa Savage and Don Jazzy to mention a few. He recently released the remix of one of his hit singles “Wo”. Olamide is single but fathers two children from his long time girlfriend and partner.

Controversies

On the 1st of January 2016, Olamide and Don Jazzy had a rift over the winner of the next rated category of the Headies Awards.

The category which included Mavin Records artist Reekado Banks, YBNL artist Lil kesh among others was won by Reekado Banks and this displeased Olamide who took to the stage to make a derogatory speech.

A disagreement ensued between both parties but they were wise enough to broker peace after a very short while and apologies were rendered to all parties involved.

The video to the singers hit track “Story for the gods” generated a lot of controversy as it was labelled as a rape glorifying video. He responded by saying it was unethical, immoral and unprofessional of him to promote rape as he had none and will never have any intention of doing that now or in the future. He stated that the single was just a party song ( a lamba song) with no ulterior motive.

Olamide has had a rift with popular blogger and media Entrepreneur Linda Ikeji whom he accused of spreading false rumors against him through her blog.
