Nigerian Army admits bombing villagers in error – Kaduna govt

The Kaduna State Government has confirmed that the Nigerian Army has taken responsibility for a tragic incident that occurred in Tudun Biri, Igabi Local Government Area of Kaduna State.

According to reports from The PUNCH, this incident resulted in the unfortunate loss of over 30 lives among the local villagers during a Maulud celebration on Sunday night at approximately 9 pm.informationguidenigeria

Initially, the Nigerian Air Force had denied any involvement in the incident, with Commodore Edward Gabkwet, the Director of Public Relations and Information for the Nigerian Air Force, asserting that no operations had been conducted by the NAF in Kaduna within the past 24 hours.

However, the situation took a new turn when Samuel Aruwan, the Overseeing Commissioner of Internal Security and Home Affairs, disclosed that Maj Gen VU Okoro, the General Officer Commanding 1 Division Nigerian Army and Force Commander of Operation Whirl Punch, acknowledged that the Nigerian Army was engaged in a routine mission against terrorists when this tragic incident occurred.

This revelation was made during a meeting convened by the deputy governor, Dr. Hadiza Balarabe, with Islamic clerics, traditional rulers, and heads of security agencies. At this meeting, the Nigerian Army explained the circumstances surrounding the unfortunate and unintended attack.

“In a meeting presided over by the Deputy Governor, Dr Hadiza  Balarabe, which had in attendance heads of security agencies, religious and traditional leaders, the Nigerian Army explained the circumstances which led to the unfortunate and unintended attack.

“The deputy governor, at the end of the closed-door meeting, conveyed the condolences of the government and people of Kaduna State to the families that lost their loved ones and prayed for the repose of the victims’ souls.

“As of the time of this update, search-and-rescue efforts are still ongoing, as dozens of injured victims have been evacuated to Barau Dikko Teaching Hospital by the Government.”
