Various methods adopted by the government in the payment of these allowances outlined above include periodic, monthly and yearly payment of allowances. Duty Tour Allowance varies according to travels.

The president receives the car loan only once all through his tenure as president. Once his tenure ends, he is expected to pay back the money.

The Salary Slash of the President and that of His Vice

When the president made the decision to cut his salary by 50 percent, he also cut that of his vice. The salary of the Vice President of Nigeria, Professor Yemi Osinbajo, was reduced to N1, 010,524.17 per month. This amounts to a total of N12, 126,290.00 annually.

After the salary structure review and associated allowances for the top federal public office holders were carried out by the National Salaries and Wages Commission, the RMAFC made a review of the above salary structure in 2007.

When Olusegun Obasanjo became president of Nigeria on May 1 2000, there was a bad-mannered salary structure. The basic annual salary of the former president was N2, 586,000 per annum, and that of his Vice, Atiku Abukakar, was set at N1, 938,000. The same structure was used to prepare the yearly salaries of the Senate President and the Chief Justice of Nigeria.

Conclusion:

The RMAFC is legally authorized by Section 32 (d) of Part 1of the Third Schedule of the Constitution to decide the appropriate salaries for political office holders.

According to the information on the website of the Revenue Mobilization Allocation and Fiscal Commission, the decision made on the annual salaries of the president and his Vice includes N3, 514,705 and N3, 031,572.50 respectively.
