FG boosts farming in Bauchi with new dam

THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT has built an earth dam and given farmers inputs in Bauchi State in an effort to reduce confrontations between farmers and herders in the area.

It also started clearing land to increase agricultural productivity in the state and nearby areas.

The dam and inputs were delivered to farmers in Bauchi State’s Azare Local Government Area, according to Paul Ikonne, Executive Secretary of the National Agricultural Land Development Authority, in a statement made in Abuja on Monday.Information Guide Nigeria

He stated that the dam will act as an irrigation facility for more than three communities in the vicinity, as NALDA would offer solar-powered pumping devices to pump water to neighbouring farmland.NYSC portal

NALDA added in the statement that tractors and site personnel were currently ensuring that the dam was completed within the two-week time constraint.

It stated that the representative of the District Head of Gamawa, Mohammed Babayo, who spoke on behalf of the farmers, appreciated the government for the dam.

Babayo, on the other hand, urged NALDA to provide farmers in the area with additional inputs such as improved seeds, fertilisers, pesticides, herbicides, and access roads.

He stated that the farmers were eager to donate more land for clearing and were open to further collaboration with NALDA, emphasising that this was the first time the villages had felt the presence of the Federal Government.

Babayo informed the NALDA delegation that all agricultural activities in the area were dependent on the farmers’ collaborative efforts.JAMB Result
