The Human Rights Writers Association of Nigeria (HURIWA) has asked President Bola Tinubu to, as a matter of urgency, take steps to restore professionalism and discipline in the operations of the Department of State Services (DSS) and the Correctional Centres in order to save the government and country of any further international embarrassment. This call according to HURIWA, has become important in the wake of the widely reported fisticuff between hooded operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) and those of the Lagos Correctional Centre at court premises over the custody of the embattled governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria Mr. Godwin Emefiele.
“The open disrespect of the unambiguous order of the presiding judge for the detention of the embattled erstwhile governor of CBN at the Lagos correctional Centre pending the fulfillment of his bail conditions shows that Nigeria is almost going down the drain and if not checked, could snowball into a banana republic”.
