Bishop David Oyedepo Biography and Profile

Bishop David Olaniyi Oyedepo is a Christian author, preacher, minister and architect. He is also the founder of the prestigious Winners Chapel international also known as the Living Faith Church.

He hails from Omu Aran, Kwara State, middle belt region of Nigeria but was born in Osogbo, Osun state on the 27th of September 1954 to a family of mixed religion. He was however, raised by his grandmother who instilled Christian values at a tender age in him while living in Osogbo.

Bishop David Oyedepo Education

David Oyedepo studied architecture at the Kwara State Polytechnic after which he worked briefly with the Federal Housing Authority in Ilorin, Kwara State before he resigned to heed fully to his ministerial call.

He is currently a PhD holder in human development from Honolulu University Hawaii, United States of America.

In 1969, a young David Oyedepo got born again while in high school and this was the genesis of his ministerial journey. Later in 1981, he had an encounter, a vision which lasted for eighteen hours.

In this vision, he received a mandate to liberate the world from satanic oppression by preaching the word of faith. This led to the birth of his Liberation Faith hour ministry later that year. In 1982, Bishop Oyedepo married his beautiful wife Florence Abiola Akano who now goes by the name Faith Oyedepo and they have four children together.

The bishop and his wife were ordained as pastors by the present general overseer of the redeem Christian church of God: Pastor Enoch Adejare Adeboye in 1983 after the official commissioning of their church. Oyedepo was eventually ordained as a bishop in 1988.

The Church living faith ( Winners Chapel international) started in Kaduna State, northern Nigeria but relocated to Lagos state in July 1989. In 1988, he built a new base for the church to accommodate the steadily increasing number of worshippers who trooped in. The new church is located at a large land mass known as Canaan land in Ota, Ogun state.

It is an auditorium with a fifty thousand seat capacity and is currently the largest church auditorium in the world. Commonly known as Faith Tabernacle, the auditorium was constructed within a year and was officially commissioned on the 18th of September 1999 by former president Olusegun Obasanjo. Winners chapel is currently located in over three hundred Nigerian cities, sixty three cities in fourty five African countries, Dubai, the united kingdom and the united States.

Winners Chapel runs a popular bible training institute known as The Word of Faith Bible Institute (WOFBI) for both members and non members of the church. It runs in all major branches of the church nationwide. He is also the convener of one the largest annual gathering of Christians in Nigeria, Shiloh holds every December at the Canaan land with thousand of people in attendance.

David Oyedepo is a firm and astute preacher of faith that has been likened to Kenneth Hagin, T.L Osborn, Smith Wigglesworth, Kenneth and Gloria Copeland and E.W Kenyon. The Late ArchBishop Benson Idahosa and Pastor Enoch Adejare Adeboye are his mentors. Oyedepo is a writer who has over one hundred christian books to his name. He operates his own publishing house known as Dominion Publishing House which was commissioned on the 5th of December 1992.

His sons David Oyedepo jnr and Isaac Oyedepo were ordained as pastors by Kenneth Copeland in may 2007. They both currently preside over different branches of the church in Canaan land, Ota and in Abuja.

The Bishop has contributed his own quota to the development and sustainance of quality education in Nigeria. He has founded educational institutions for primary, secondary and Tertiary institutions. He founded covenant university which turned out to be one of the best private universities in the country in 2002 and in 20011, he founded Landmark University in Kwara State.

The bishop has been criticized by the public for his healing methods and acquisition of properties and many investments but this has not deterred him from being focused and staying true to his mandate. Oyedepo and his wife are grandparents as three of his children are married with their own kids.

COVENANT UNIVERSITY

A private university founded by Bishop Oyedepo in 2002 with him as the Chancellor and Chairman of the board of trustees. It is a member of the common wealth university and was ranked by webometrics in 2015 as the best university in Nigeria. Although the school has been criticized for its strict codes of conduct, it maintains high standards and has produced noteable Alumni.

The school is equipped with a library that accommodates three thousand readers and about five hundred research staff and post graduate students. It operates four colleges: the college of science and technology, college of engineering, college of business and social sciences and the college of leadership and development studies with a school of post graduate studies.

Covenant University runs a secondary school to meet the needs of teenagers within the university environment. The secondary school (Kingdom Academy Secondary School) is also located at Canaan land, it has over two thousand students with over twenty branches across Nigeria.
Canaan land is also home to other business ventures operated by Bishop Oyedepo. They include a bakery, Dominion publishing house, Hebron bottled water processing plant, restaurants, residential estates, stores and micro finance banks.

Apart from the Faith Academy Secondary School, Oyedepo also owns the Kingdom Heritage Model Schools, a primary school which he founded in 2003 with the aim of raising godly pupils and future leaders of valiant character and excellence and to promote a good standard of education in Nigeria. It has branches in major cities across the country.

In 2014 Oyedepo founded Landmark University in Kwara State, He is currently building Crown University in Calabar, Cross River State. He also owns private jets and real estate investments in United Kingdom and the United States.
