Centre for Journalism Innovation and Development (CJID) is seeking the services of both graduates and experienced job seekers to fill the vacant positions in their Establishment.

The Centre for Journalism Innovation and Development (CJID) is a West African media innovation and development think tank. Founded in 2014 as a non-governmental organisation in Nigeria, the Centre has been a leader in investigative journalism, innovation, open data, verification, the promotion of journalist welfare and safety, elections and the freedom of information and expression. In 2020, the CJID expanded its footprints beyond Nigeria and moved into specific niches in Ghana, Sierra Leone, Liberia and The Gambia.

We are recruiting to fill the following positions below:

1.) Project Manager

Location: Abuja

Requirements

  • At least a Master’s Degree or PhD in International Development, Economics, Political Science, International Relations, Law, and Health.
  • 5 years experience in NGO work experience (familiarity with media/development/policy projects is an advantage)
  • Strong background in research and data analysis
  • Strong knowledge of proposal writing to funding agencies

2.) Grant Officer

Location: Abuja

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in a relevant field such as Development Studies, Statistics, Economics, or Social Sciences.
  • 3 to 5 years in Grant writing and other related NGO work experience (familiarity with media/human rights/governance projects is an advantage)
  • Strong background in Grant Management methodologies and data analysis
  • Strong analytical and data analysis skills, including experience with statistical software packages.
  • Possess professionalism, motivation, flexibility, and cultural sensitivity.

3.) Development Analyst

Location: Abuja

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop deep expertise by researching, understanding, and applying mental models to analyse transformations, trends and developments that relate to the Nigerian Economy
  • Develop and maintain a strong professional network of sources and contacts across various sectors of the SDGs to generate insights and story ideas to share with subscribers.
  • Use data, analysis, quantitative and/or documentary material, as well as interviews, to explore all aspects of the varied industries in the West African economy.
  • Produce long-form analytical articles that use a range of data visualisations (e.g. charts, graphs) to explore all aspects of the Nigerian economy on a weekly basis.
  • Prepare proposals, reports, and other materials for submission to grant agencies.

4.) Communication Officer

Location: Abuja

Requirements

  • Educated to a Bachelor’s Degree level.
  • At least 3 to 5 years of relevant work experience.
  • Proven experience in a communications role in a large organisation with multiple projects and stakeholder groups.
  • Ability to use a variety of communications channels to disseminate information, including WordPress and Mailchimp.
  • Skillful at gathering and processing information quickly and making it understandable to a wide range of audiences.
  • Ability to think strategically about how to communicate multiple project outcomes while maintaining CJID’s core objectives and mission in the messaging.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement strategic communications plans for each project’s implementation, making reference to CJID Communications Strategy
  • Provide strategic communications support to the project and programme teams to ensure alignment with CJID’s goals and mission.
  • Daily promote projects visibility through digital communications channels, by developing relevant and interesting content
  • Manage, where needed, projects’ social media platforms.
  • Maintain records of media coverage and collate analytics and metrics.
  • Undertake other duties to meet the needs of the department and the organisation.
