Apple receives patent for Apple Watch with a camera

Still waiting for Apple to release an Apple Watch with an integrated camera? There is still a chance for optimism.

A patent awarded to Apple last week describes a smartwatch with a camera on its underside. The camera is pointed directly at the wrist, which may seem like the worst possible location for it, but the patent describes a system that would make this location usable in certain circumstances.Information Guide Nigeria

The trick lies in the wristband, which would consist of two segments, with the top (along with the watch) being easily detachable from the bottom. Therefore, if you wanted to take a photo with your Apple Watch, you could easily remove it from your wrist, point it at whatever you wished, take the photo, and reattach it to the wristband.

It sounds fun until you realize that taking a photo with your phone is probably more practical in almost every situation, with the exception of the extremely rare occasions when you do not have your phone on you.

This is not the first Apple patent to describe a camera-equipped smartwatch. This patent, which was granted in 2022, describes a more conventional placement for the camera within the crown of the watch.JAMB Result

Notably, both patents were filed in 2019, so it is likely that Apple has abandoned the concept by now.
