The National Bureau of Statistics reports that air travel increased by 96.87 percent during the course of one year.
In its report titled “transportation fare watch” (September 2022), the Bureau observed that the average fare paid by air passengers for a single travel on specified routes grew by 96.87% year-over-year from N36,922.97 in September 2021.
According to the statistics organisation, it climbed by 11.76% month-over-month, from N65,041.89 in August 2022 to N72,690.54 in September 2022.
From August 2022 to September 2022, the average fare paid by commuters for bus trips within the city increases by 2.19 percent per month, from N602.48 to N615.69.
It also revealed that the average fare paid by commuters for bus trips within the city climbed by 41.42% annually, from N435.36 per drop in September 2021 to N615.69 per drop in September 2022.

In another area, the average fare paid by commuters for intercity bus journeys per drop grew to N3,790.06 in September 2022, representing a month-over-month increase of 0.27% compared to August 2022’s figure of N3,779.96. In September 2021, the fares increased by 44.61% annually, from N2,620.90.
In September 2022, the average Okada transportation fare was N434.73, which was 1.15 percent less than the rate reported in August 2022 (N439.80).
Comparing September 2021 to September 2022, the bureau observed that the fare increased by 41.79% annually (N306.80).
The NBS added,” the average fare paid for water transport (waterway passenger transportation) in September 2022 increased to N980.18 showing a growth of 0.61% on a month-on-month basis, from N974.26 in August 2022. On year-on-year, the fare rose by 15.44% from N849.06 in September 2021 to N980.20 in September 2022.”
