Thursday’s accident involved 20 vehicles, including a truck, a tanker, 12 cars, and six motorcycles, according to a statement issued by Bisi Kazeem, spokesperson for the Federal Road Safety Corps.
The inquiry, according to the Corps, indicated that road blockage and brake failure were the primary reasons of the accident and ensuing fire outbreak that took the lives of the victims.
The brake failure was a mechanical defect that negatively damaged the vehicle’s braking system’s functionality.
Dauda Biu, the Acting Corps Marshal of the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC), urged drivers, vehicle owners, and fleet operators to adopt a culture of safety by performing routine and regular maintenance on their cars while traveling from one location to another.
